NFTS students win Vintage TV Music Video Award

We are delighted to announce the winners of an exclusive competition, held in conjunction with the National Film and Television School, to make music videos for songs from the pre-video era.

We were on the hunt for young film-makers to create music videos for tracks which predate the music video era, to add to our 200-strong collection of commissioned videos. An exciting, creative opportunity arose to work with the National Film and Television School (NFTS), to bring to the screen iconic songs from the 60s and 70s that still resonate today. First and second year NFTS students chose from 20 pre-selected classic songs to make their videos. Studying a range of subjects, including Animation, Cinematography, Digital Post Production, Editing and Script Development, the students tackled the task with vim and vigour, producing videos for a great selection of hits.

The judging panel was extremely impressed by the high standards and originality of the entries. "It's particularly gratifying to see how these students have embraced the music of earlier generations, and the extent to which they have adopted and interpreted it as their own. The level of ingenuity and creativity reflected in all of the competition entries has been quite astounding; it all points to a bright future for them, and – we hope – a fruitful, continuing relationship with Vintage TV." – David Pick, CEO, Vintage TV

"For NFTS student editors to work with Vintage TV, creating videos for songs from past eras has been a great experience for them as well as a credit to the NFTS, and it has delivered quality products for Vintage TV." – Nik Powell, Director, NFTS

We are delighted to announce as joint-winners Kevin MacDonald and James Taylor who produced marvellous videos for David Bowie's Starman and Simon & Garfunkel's The Sound Of Silence, respectively. Runner-up Nick Cooke is also congratulated for his beautiful video to Sandy Denny's Who Knows Where The Time Goes. The three videos will premiere on the channel on Sunday 12th February at 11.00am. The Vintage TV Music Video Award is not simply a trophy – it also consists of a 6 month contract to make 10 more music videos for the channel. Congratulations to all!
